The Seven Major Chakra Colors

The seven energy centres located in our spine correspond with seven major chakra colors. When you meditate on these colors at those points in your body, you release more pranic healing energy throughout your body and become more psychic at the same time.

If you seek more general information about chakras before learning about their colors, please study the chakra chart page or practise this opening chakra meditation to expand your chakras.

Understanding the Seven Chakra Colors

Although there are some slight differences in opinion regarding the seven chakra colors, the major colors associated with the chakras are, from the top of the head downwards:

WHITE (Seventh or Crown Chakra, located just above the head)

VIOLET (Sixth Chakra or Third Eye, located just above the eyebrow centre)

BLUE (Fifth or Throat Chakra, located in the throat)

GREEN (Fourth or Heart Chakra, located in the centre of the chest)

YELLOW/GOLD (Third Chakra or Solar Plexus, located behind the navel)

ORANGE (Second or Sacral Chakra, located behind the sexual organs)

RED (First or Base or Root Chakra, located at the base of the spine)

Common Chakra Color Variations

Although the above colors are the most common ones experienced by people when they meditate, it is ultimately more important that you feel comfortable meditating at the chakra points in your body, so adjust the colour slightly if you intuitively feel you should during your meditation.

For example, if you feel more of a connection with purple when meditating at the place of your crown chakra (the top of your head), then please meditate on purple! Let your intuition guide you during your meditation as to what feels right for you, especially if the standard chakra colors don't sit comfortably with you after you have been meditating on them for several days.

The most common chakra variations are:

1. PURPLE for the crown chakra

2. DARK BLUE or INDIGO for the third eye chakra

3. LIGHT BLUE for the throat chakra

Learn these seven chakra colors by heart and meditate on them, using a meditation such as the one below. To remember the chakra colors, simply think of a rainbow (that is, if you can remember the color sequence of a rainbow!). The chakra colors flow in the same order from red to purple (or white at the crown chakra) as is found in nature in rainbows.

Color Meditation on the Seven Chakras

1. Sit comfortably in a quiet place where you won't be distracted and close your eyes, sitting with your spine upright. Begin to focus on your breathing, following each and every inhalation and exhalation you make.

2. After just a few minutes of deep breathing you will be feeling much more vibrant and possibly even light-headed. This is perfectly normal as you have been inhaling more oxygen than usual. If you continue to feel light-headed, reduce the amount of air you inhale.

Take your attention to the base of your spine and visualise a tiny RED light expanding in size from a pin prick to a golf ball, where it keeps expanding to eventually fill your body with magnificent red light.

This red light visualisation represents your red chakra expanding and emitting healing energy throughout your body. Imagine the red ball pulsing and growing to fill every cell of your body with its radiant red light. Continue this for a minute or so.

3. Next, raise your awareness a couple of inches from the base of your spine and visualise at that point a tiny ORANGE light expanding from nothingness to grow and fill every pore of your body, its healing orange light emanating from your second chakra.

4. Moving next up to your solar plexus, the area behind your navel, begin to visualise an incandescent GOLD light growing from just a tiny dot to fill your bodily cavity with magnificent gold light. As it expands, your third chakra is opened more fully.

5. Repeat this process now in the centre of your chest cavity as you meditate on the color of GREEN. As this vibrant green healing light expands to fill your chest and then your entire body, your heart chakra pulsates more vibrantly than ever before.

6. Next take your awareness to the area inside your throat. Focus on the color of BLUE and imagine a small blue light in the centre of your throat growing to fill your head, and then the rest of your body, with its positive and vibrant blue glow.

7. Now it is time to meditate on the color of VIOLET. Allow a beautiful and gentle violet light to grow from the area between your eyebrows and travel to every far corner of your body. As you visualise this violet light expanding throughout your body, your third eye chakra is opening further by the second.

8. To open your crown chakra completely, imagine a WHITE ball of pure light at the top of your head growing and expanding like a snowball before gently descending through your body to spread its brightness to every cell and pore of your being. As it does so, your crown chakra unfurls to become even more receptive to the psychic sensitivities around you.

By the time you complete this chakra color meditation, your body will be buzzing with extra energy and you are then ready to use your psychic perception to tune into any topic you seek information on.

After you have completed your meditation and seek psychic answers, ask a question and accept the very first answer that enters your mind. When you are completely relaxed, you will be at your most psychic best. That's why we are so perceptive and intuitive when we are asleep, because our critical mind is relaxed.

The chakra colors can be regularly used as a tool to expand your intuitive powers; and when you practise it regularly you will begin to experience more psychic insights and flashes as a reward for your spiritual discipline.
